Brian Anderson Awarded JUSFC / NEA US-Japan Fellowship

The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) have announced that five outstanding applicants have been selected to participate in the 2018 U.S.-Japan Creative Artists Program. Brian Anderson, Assistant Professor of UIC Industrial Design, is among this prestigious group. 

Brian's awarded proposal initiates cultural exchange thorugh shared acts of making. He will travel to Japan for an extended period of 2019 to ineract with Japanese makers and to explore and critique innovative practices in Japan and extrapoate these into new contexts and applications. Brian's proposed project advances objectives of his own research and creative practice, which bridge traditional and digital production techniques, as it simultaneously supports the intent of Japanese craftspersons who are seeking to protect, evolve, and bring greater international attention to their cultural traditions.
