Marcia Lausen presents at AIGA Leadership Conference
National board members and leaders representing 70 chapters of AIGA, the professional assocaition for design, gather each year to collectively advance the agenda and mission of the organization. Marcia Lausen, Director of the School of Design and Professor of Graphic Design, co-presented to this group with Chris Kasabach, Executive Director of the Watson Foundation, and representatives of IBM Design.
The presentation, Pathways of Social Design, was delivered on behalf of Winterhouse Institute Sypmosium on Design Education and Social Impact. Pathways is a model developed by Winterhouse to provide a clear framework to map out the resources and range of experience required when addressing complex social problems at various levels and scales.
AIGA Executive Director, Julie Anixter, has identified Pathways as a tool for understanding the full context of the design profession. Conference sponsor, IBM has identified the model as a way to engage designers in discussion about their individual professional progress. The presentation, which demonstrated the framwork by mapping case studies of social design projects as well as individual career trajectories, was followed by a workshop conducted by IBM Design.
