2017–2018 Public Seminar Series: Through a Glass Darkly
Till Wittwer

Till Wittwer is an artist, writer, and researcher. He is interested in narration as a central element for the negotiation of a notion of ‘reality’, especially in economics, politics, and history; and he creates research-based narratives which he presents as speculative proposals to relate to the world in the form of essays, publications, lectures, games, and performances. His work has been shown at cultural institutions including the Hammer Museum, Former West Research Congress at Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin, and the Museum for Photography Berlin; and his writing has been included in publications spanning art, design and architecture, including Frieze d/e, Bricks From the Kiln, The Walker Reader, and Taking a Line for a Walk. Till studied in Berlin, Rome and Chicago, and holds degrees from the Freie Universität, Berlin and the Universität der Künste, Berlin. He is currently a Research Scholar at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He will visit CADA to discuss the parameters of design as a practice and alternative models for the profession in which designers develop their own agendas and territories.

The UIC School of Design public seminar series serves as a research platform for the school’s MDES program, stimulating broad intellectual inquiry about the values guiding the designer by promoting discourse across industrial and graphic design.
