Amir Berbic: On Branding Places

Amir Berbic, Associate Professor of Graphic Design, and Acting Director of the UIC School of Design, will give a talk "On Branding Places" at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The current global situation of refugees entering new societies and cultures highlights complex matters of place and identity. Using examples of his own work, designed in several places he has called home, Amir Berbić expands on this topic to explain how place identity can be established through graphic design. He also discusses the inspiration for his current work reconstructing the visual identity of a Bosnian refugee camp in Denmark and his installation design for the galleries and windows facing onto Griffin Court.

Berbic's research investigates identities of place, three-dimensional typography, and design pedagogy. Through professional practice and independent projects, he collaborates with cultural organizations, arts institutions, and publishers. His work has been featured in numerous publications, conferences, and exhibitions.
